On June 6th, Ellis had a fundraising cocktail party in New York City hosted by the generous Yasmina Jacobs, a close friend of our CEO, Lauren Cook. She opened up her doors in SoHo to greet her friends and potential donors for Ellis Early Learning. The event featured Megan Madison, author of the First Conversation book series, including “Our Skin: A First Conversation About Race.” Yasmina and her husband Jon were incredible hosts, treating guests to passed hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and engaging conversation about early education among New York locals.
After Lauren Cook spoke about what sets Ellis apart in the early education field, Megan Madison spoke about her writing and advocacy work for children’s education. She shared her knowledge of early education and talked about how her books help children feel a sense of agency and unconditional love. She explained that she wrote these books for all children, and said, “We all have a responsibility to do our parts for today’s children." Megan also suggested ways that others can support Ellis through financial gifts, visiting Ellis, and volunteering.
Megan previewed her new books about disabilities and social justice and emphasized the need for anti-bias education. Then she held a Q&A about her work and the impact she has made on early education. Guests left with one of Megan Madison’s books, which included Being You: A First Conversation about Gender, Our Skin: A First Conversation about Race, Yes! No! A First Conversation about Consent, Every Body: A First Conversation about Bodies, and Together: A First Conversation about Love.
Ellis’s first New York City house party was a terrific success, and the team was happy to make new connections for Ellis’s future.
