On June 21st, Ellis held three memorable graduation ceremonies for 25 preschoolers in the South End and 20 in Jamaica Plain. The children will embark on their next school adventure in September. The decorated Music and Movement room in the South End was brimming with smiles and pride as the preschoolers were captured by their family’s cameras. The Jamaica Plain graduates were in the playground, watched by their beloved families in sunglasses that read “Class of 2024.”
One preschooler from the Bruins class woke up at 6:30 because she was so excited. “She couldn’t stop singing the songs last night!” Her mother explained. The preschoolers walked down the green aisle to the chairs at the front with glowing smiles. Dressed in white caps and gowns, they were ready to say farewell to Ellis and hello to a new phase of life.
In her remarks, Lauren Cook shared how much Ellis will miss these students. Ellis’s music teacher, Mr. Phil of the New England Conservatory, led the children in singing their beautiful songs. Each class sang “Count on Me “by Bruno Mars, “Hello Everybody,” and “I Like the Mountains." VP of Programs Claire McNally told the audience what the preschoolers have learned and how much they mean to Ellis, saying, “They truly hold a special spot for us all in our hearts.” At last, it was time for the teachers to present a diploma to each preschooler. Our South End graduation had a special guest, Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn, who offered big congratulations to our students. The Ellis-JP graduation featured Yaskara Cruz, Center Director, and Assistant Director Tasha Jackson. Both spoke about the pride and joy they have for the preschoolers.
A surprise awaited the preschoolers when the ceremony ended. In recognition of their hard work, each child was presented with a backpack filled with essential school supplies. Intercontinental Real Estate generously provided these backpacks containing notebooks, pencils, crayons, markers, a pencil case with a half ruler, a special pencil that says, “Kindergarten, Here I come!” and an animal eraser. These tools will undoubtedly nurture the young graduates' enthusiasm for learning as they begin their new school year. Each backpack also had a special book with a personalized note from the child's teachers. The book for the South End Preschoolers was “I Wish for You” by David Wax, illustrated by Brett Blumenthal. For the JP preschoolers, the book was “Remarkably You” by Pat Zietlow Miller, illustrated by Patrice Barton.
Ellis is so proud of our preschool graduates. As they enter their next adventure, they carry with them knowledge, boundless curiosity, and joy that will continue to shape their journey through life.
